Richmond Metro Neighborhood Map
The Richmond, Virginia metropolitan area spans five jurisdictions — Chesterfield, Henrico, Goochland, Powhatan, and the City of Richmond — encompassing 44 distinct neighborhoods ranging from walkable urban rowhouse blocks to sprawling master-planned communities and quiet rural counties. This interactive neighborhood map (RVA's answer to HoodMaps) lets you visualize every zone at once: color-coded by character, priced by the latest sold-property data, and scored for schools, walkability, and long-term investment potential.
Urban Core Neighborhoods
Richmond's urban core neighborhoods offer the highest walkability scores and the most distinct historical character in the metro. The Fan District anchors the west side with Victorian rowhouses and a Walk Score of 93. Church Hill — Richmond's oldest neighborhood — has appreciated over 1,000% in 25 years and is anchored by a $45M revitalization investment. Carytown / Museum District averages 13-day sales windows at peak season. Scott's Addition transformed from industrial to brewery district and leads the metro in young-demographic growth. Other Urban Core zones include Jackson Ward, Shockoe Bottom, Monument Avenue, Oregon Hill, Manchester, Northside, and Carver.
Suburban Neighborhoods
The RVA suburbs stretch from the River Road corridor's established estates to the new-construction boom in Moseley and the family-centric corridors of Short Pump and Glen Allen. Suburban neighborhoods dominate sales volume — Midlothian alone accounts for 2,600+ sold properties in our 36-month dataset. Woodlake and Bon Air offer top-tier Chesterfield school zones at mid-market pricing. Mechanicsville and Atlee / Elmont are Hanover County's fastest-growing corridors.
Master-Planned Communities
Richmond's master-planned communities deliver curated amenities — lakes, trails, pools, golf — at premium price points. Wyndham in western Henrico combines top-rated schools with country-club lifestyle. Brandermillon the Swift Creek Reservoir is one of the oldest and most established planned communities in the South. Hallsley and Magnolia Green in Chesterfield are among the highest-rated new-home communities in the MSA. Harpers Mill and Hampton Park round out the tier with strong school zone ratings.
Rural & Exurban Counties
Beyond the suburban ring, the Richmond MSA includes seven rural jurisdictions offering land, privacy, and affordability unavailable closer to the city. Goochland County commands a premium for its River Road properties and low density. Powhatan County attracts buyers seeking acreage within 30 minutes of Chesterfield employers. New Kent County is the easternmost corridor with rapid infrastructure expansion. Ashland (Hanover County) offers small-town charm with Amtrak access to DC and Richmond.
